Broussard's late strike seals third women's league crown for Sabah

KUALA LUMPUR: Sabah successfully defended the National Women's League (LWN) title for the second consecutive time after edging Selangor 1-0 in the final at the KLFA Stadium here on Sunday.

American striker Enzi Broussard emerged as Sabah's heroine when a late goal in the dying minutes of the match was enough to secure their third league title, adding to their titles in 2023 and 2025.

Earlier, Sabah, who dominated the first half, sent an early warning when attacking mainstay Enzi's free-kick was tipped away by goalkeeper Nurdiana Syafiqah Mohd Rostam in the 21st minute.

Nurdiana Syafiqah once again excelled in saving Selangor's goal from being breached by denying a close-range attempt by defender Juliana Barek in the 38th minute.

Entering the second half, Selangor increased their tempo and nearly scored the opening goal when substitute player Yeo Menji's attempt in the 69th minute drifted just wide of the right side of the goal.

Sabah finally broke the deadlock when a long-range shot by Enzi was fumbled by Nurdiana Syafiqah, sealing the championship for Bobby Gonzales's squad a minute before regular time ended. –BERNAMA
