One of the children of Vice President Sara Duterte and her husband, Manases Carpio had over P1 million in bank deposits at the end of each year from 2022 to 2025, a bank official testified on Wednesday.
Lawyer Niña Ferren Aguilar of the Anti-Money Laundering Division of Metropolitan Bank and Trust Company (Metrobank) made the testimony during Day 35 of the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.
Aguilar said the account of one of the minor children of the Duterte-Carpio couple in Metrobank had the following end of the year balance:
- P1.8 million in 2022
- P1.3 million in 2023
- P1.458 million in 2024
- P1.459 million in 2025
Further, Aguilar testified that the Vice President and her husband has a joint account, which posted the following ending balances during the same period:
- P2.278 million in 2022
- P2.436 million in 2023
- P330,000 in 2024
- P55,000 in 2025
Aguilar also told the Senate impeachment court that the Vice President has an account under her name with a balance of P85,000 by the end of each year 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025.
During the offer of evidence, private prosecutor James Alih told the Senate impeachment court that prosecution witnesses from the banks seek to prove, among others, that the Vice President and her husband maintained 30 active bank accounts within 2022 to 2025 with a total ending balance of P190 million as of end of 2025.
The absence of the Vice President's declaration of cash in bank or cash on hand in her joint SALN with her husband from 2019 to 2025 were earlier testified to before the Senate impeachment court by Atty. Karen Batu of the Office of the Ombudsman.
The Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees requires all public officials and employees, except those who serve in an honorary capacity, laborers and casual or temporary workers to file their SALN and a Disclosure of Business Interests and Financial Connections and those of their spouses and unmarried children under 18 years of age living in their households. — VDV, GMA News
