NEW DELHI: The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) early Saturday claimed that its founder Abhijeet Dipke had been "kidnapped" by Delhi Police. CJP's Ajinkya Shinde alleged that more than 10 hours after he was detained, neither his family, lawyers nor party members had been informed about his whereabouts. In a post on X, CJP said it had received no updates on Dipke's location since he was picked up by police ahead of the 'Lehra Do Tiranga' protest.
Dipke was detained from Jhandewalan while on his way to Connaught Place, police sources told news agency PTI.. The CJP alleged that he had been taken to an undisclosed location and was not being allowed to speak to lawyers."The Delhi Police has taken Abhijeet Dipke to an undisclosed location.
We have lost contact with him. He is not being allowed to talk to lawyers," the party said in an earlier post on X.The party also wrote to the station house officer of Mandir Marg police station, seeking details of Dipke's whereabouts, the legal provisions invoked and the grounds for his preventive detention. CJP leader Rohan Deshpande urged police to disclose who had ordered the detention and ensure Dipke had access to legal counsel and could contact his colleagues.
The developments came amid concerns over the detention of All India Students' Association (AISA) president Neha Bora, whose whereabouts were also uncertain for several hours. AISA later said its lawyers had traced her to the RK Puram police station around midnight, after she was allegedly moved between locations across Delhi.
CPI(ML) Liberation also demanded the immediate release of Dipke, Bora and other detained protesters.
CPI(M) Rajya Sabha MP John Brittas called on Delhi Police to disclose the location of detained protesters and explain the grounds for their detention.Police said around 150 people had been detained as part of efforts to maintain law and order and ensure smooth traffic movement. Security personnel were deployed around Central Park in Connaught Place, with Rapid Action Force personnel stationed in the area.
