The stakes are about to get even higher in the DC Universe.

Since August, the DCU's Chapter 1: "Gods and Monsters " slate has been focusing on the Green Lantern Corps, as Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre brought Hal Jordan and John Stewart to life in James Gunn's superhero franchise. Since the premiere, their gritty comic book adventure has continued to rise in popularity, emerging as one of the strongest projects in the franchise.

Following the airing of episode 7, HBO and DC Studios have finally released the Lanterns episode 8 trailer, giving the DCU audience a first look at the highly anticipated season finale of the show. Check it out below:

Not only is Sinestro playing a larger role in the next episode, but Nathan Fillion's Guy Gardner is coming back for the second time this season. As the last few episodes have been primarily set in the present timeline, the show is still exploring who killed Hal.

Despite the season finale being a week away, HBO has yet to announce a formal Lanterns season 2 renewal. However, a writers' room has opened up for a potential second season, as Damon Lindelof revealed to ScreenRant's Ash Crossan that "if it’s successful and people love it, there’s a lot of runway to launch into future seasons. But I think Chris Mundy has already started a new writers’ room, figuring out what new stories could be for Lanterns."

The Lanterns season 1 finale airs on Sunday, October 4, at 9 PM ET/6 PM PT on HBO and will also be released on HBO Max at the same time.
