Now that Inter and Milan have unveiled the design for the Generali Stadium, architect David Manica assures ‘San Siro is a feeling’ and that the new arena will be ‘even more San Siro’ than it is today.

San Siro is the name of the neighbourhood in the city of Milan, and had been the official name of the stadium until it was renamed in honour of former Inter and AC Milan star Giuseppe Meazza.

The two clubs purchased the land including the Stadio Meazza in November 2025 in a deal worth around €197m, and will construct the new arena in what is essentially currently the parking lot of the existing structure.

The rendering and design for the new stadium was unveiled today in a special event co-hosted by the two Serie A clubs, just days before the Derby della Madonnina on Saturday.

Architects Norman Foster and David Manica have come together for the project, having already worked on the redesign of Wembley Stadium in London.

It will aim to keep many of the elements that made the Stadio Meazza so popular with fans, including the steep gradient of the stands that allows everyone to have a good view.

“The most important thing that we realised when we designed this project is that San Siro is a feeling,” Manica said.

“It’s more than a building, it’s a feeling. We brought all the seats as close as possible to the field. They could not be any closer, it’ll actually feel as though you’re sitting on the grass.”

Manica assured that his idea was not to replace the iconic venue, but to make this “even more San Siro than it is today.”

The structure will be “low in the body, and rises up at either end” behind the goals, added Foster, enhancing the two ‘Curva’ sections where the ultras are traditionally situated, with 11,700 seats for each one.

The capacity is around 71,500, including 8,088 hospitality seats and 3,698 premium experience areas, along with 394 positions for wheelchair users.

The height of the stadium will reach 70 metres above the pitch and 66 metres above the park area outside, with the spoke-wheel roof covered by 27,500 square metres of solar panels.
