MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Friday penned a short but sweet message to First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos, who is celebrating her 67th birthday.

In a Facebook post, Marcos shared a portrait of him and the first lady, along with an old photo of them with their three sons.

“My dear Liza, we’re celebrating today a most important day in the calendar: Liza Day!” Marcos wrote in a Facebook post.

“Happy Birthday to the First Lady of every day of my life… and beyond!” he added.

In a Facebook post on Aug. 17, Liza shared that she was “excited” to start her birthday sabbatical, which she said would have no makeup, hairspray, terno, heels, speeches, official photos, meetings, schedules or stress for a week.

She added that it would be a “time to slow down, recharge and enjoy the quiet.”

While Malacañang said it acknowledged the criticisms of her pre-birthday post, Palace press officer Claire Castro noted that the first lady did not intend to convey negativity in the post, adding that “it was simply meant to say that a birthday, while we are alive, is something we should be grateful for.” /das
