Weekend showers and sunshine for UK ahead of warmer temperatures next week

Translate

It will be a weekend of two halves weather-wise for most people with many seeing a cool start on Saturday.

A strengthening north-westerly wind will carry showers across the UK. But Sunday looks calmer with sunshine in the north and east and rain creeping into the south and west.

Looking further ahead, next week will see a return to above average temperatures.

Tuesday looks set to be the warmest day of the period and could reach 21C for some. However a deep area of low pressure is likely to bring some stormy weather across the north.

Saturday will be the more unsettled day of the weekend, generally cool with blustery showers.

Scotland and Northern England are likely to have the strongest winds, with local coastal gales.

Sunshine and showers will be the dominant theme, with northern and eastern regions seeing the greatest concentration of these, and possibly hail and thunder too.

Elsewhere there will be some scattered showers but many places in the south should see some lengthy dry spells with sunshine, and temperatures average for October.

Sunday could get off to a chilly start with a grass frost in rural eastern areas.

Some local fog patches are likely first thing, particularly in sheltered rural locations, before lifting to leave spells of sunshine and variable cloud for many.

For Scotland and Northern England it is likely to be the drier day of the weekend with sunshine although cloud and patchy rain could move into the south-west by lunchtime.

This will slowly make its way across the rest of southern England and into Wales.

It will be accompanied by a strengthening southerly breeze and gradually a return to milder air once again.

Temperatures to rise next week... but stormy weather for some

Next week, will see a transition to milder more humid conditions.

Monday is likely to be a fairly grey day along with patchy rain and hill fog but brighter spells should develop later in the day for some areas.

Temperatures will be about 3 degrees higher than Sunday and the cloudy overnight skies will make things seem very mild.

Tuesday looks set to be the warmest day of the period. However across the north of the UK a deep area of low pressure will bring a bout of autumn gales.

There will also be heavy rain which will drift southwards, but little promise of where it is needed most across eastern England.

Once this clears, many places should see sunshine developing, and across England and Wales temperatures could widely reach 18-21 Celsius.

This is several degrees above the mid-October average and it might well briefly feel like late summer before more changeable conditions return later in the week.
