Five key aspects shape vocational education ecosystem: Ministry

Translate

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Manpower Ministry has highlighted five key aspects of building a vocational education ecosystem that is relevant to workforce needs.

Manpower Ministry Secretary General Cris Kuntadi said in a statement here on Wednesday that the five aspects are skills and character, adaptability to technology, learning infrastructure, institutional governance, and the benefits graduates bring to the workforce and society.

“It is not enough to simply produce skilled graduates. We must shape individuals who have integrity, discipline, competence, and a strong work ethic,” he said.

Furthermore, Kuntadi said students at vocational education institutions need not only skills relevant to their fields but also integrity, responsibility, discipline, and a strong work ethic.

However, he stressed that these foundations need to be strengthened by preparing students to adapt to changes in the workforce, particularly amid the rapid pace of technological development.

“Technology keeps changing. Therefore, vocational education graduates must have the ability to engage in lifelong learning,” Kuntadi said.

He said the ability to continue learning also requires an adequate educational environment.

Kuntadi said both physical and digital facilities are needed to support the learning process while expanding access to quality vocational education.

“Besides facilities, educational institutions need to be managed properly. Institutional governance ensures that educational resources are used effectively and responsibly, while prioritizing transparency and accountability,” he added.

Ultimately, he said, vocational education must deliver tangible benefits once graduates enter the workforce. Therefore, the benefits graduates bring to the workforce and society are an important measure of the success of vocational education.

“The measure of success of vocational education, in the end, is not just how many graduates there are, but how much benefit they provide,” he added.
