The Tasmania Devils have axed VFL captain Robbie Fox, following an incident at a Hobart pub, the ABC understands.

Fox, 33, is understood to have been removed from the Granada Tavern, in Hobart's northern suburbs, after becoming drunk and disorderly at the venue two weeks ago.

It's understood Fox was abusive toward some staff at the venue, and at one point a bottle was thrown.

The Granada Tavern was contacted but declined to comment.

The incident has contributed to the Devils parting ways with their inaugural skipper, opting not to offer him a fresh contract for the 2027 season.

In a statement, Devils VFL boss Aaron Pidgeon said "the club's expectations regarding player behaviour, and adherence to our standards" were part of the decision not to offer him a new deal.

Fox is also employed by the Devils as the club's strategic projects and impact lead, and it's understood he will remain in the role.

The veteran defender, who hails from Burnie, was recruited to the Devils after playing 105 games with the Sydney Swans, including the 2022 and 2024 AFL grand finals.

In an injury-affected season, he played 13 games this year for Tasmania in the VFL, leading the club to a top four finish and a home semi-final.
