India had another day to forget at the ISSF World Championships on Wednesday, with no medal contention in the 10m air rifle mixed team or the 25m rapid fire pistol events, and a disqualification adding to the woes.
Sonam Uttam Maskar and Himanshu Dhillon missed the four-team final in the 10m air rifle mixed team event, finishing seventh with an aggregate of 632.4. Sonam shot 316.6 and Himanshu 315.8.
India’s other pairing, Shambhavi Kshirsagar and Parth Mane, was disqualified after Shambhavi breached ISSF rules on apparel and equipment.
It was her second disqualification at a major event in five months for a similar violation. She was also disqualified at the ISSF Junior World Championships in Suhl, Germany, in June, a lapse that cost India a possible women’s team medal.
In the 25m rapid fire pistol, none of India’s three shooters reached the eight-shooter final. Bhavesh Shekhawat was the best-placed Indian with an aggregate of 582 across two days of qualification.
Gurpreet Singh was 18th with 579, and Suraj Sharma 35th with 571. India’s combined 1,732 placed the team sixth.
The World Championships open the qualification process for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, yet India have still not won an individual medal in an Olympic event or secured a quota place.
The team has won gold and individual silver in the men’s 50m pistol, which is not an Olympic event, along with a team silver in the women’s 10m air rifle.
Only individual medals in Olympic events count towards quota places for the 2028 Games.
