FM urges return to dialogue, resumption of diplomatic track through US-Iran negotiations

Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty stressed the need for the United States and Iran to resume dialogue and the diplomatic track through negotiations aimed at reaching an understanding, saying this is the only way to end the current crisis and halt the escalation that is causing serious harm to the interests of all countries in the region.

Abdelatty made the remarks during a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on the sidelines of the high-level segment of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly in New York.

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Nader Zaki said Friday that the meeting addressed the latest developments in the region, adding that the two ministers reviewed ongoing efforts and proposals aimed at reaching an agreement to contain tensions and de-escalate the situation.

Abdelatty underscored the vital importance of all countries assuming their responsibilities to ensure the safety and freedom of international navigation, in order to contain the crisis’s adverse impact on the global economy.

He noted that the crisis has significantly disrupted energy and fertilizer supply chains, as well as international trade.

The minister also stressed the importance of respecting the security and stability of the Gulf states and all countries across the region.
