LAHAD DATU, Oct 4 — Lahad Datu deputy police chief Supt Jimmy Panyau died last night at the Kuching Life Care Society in Sarawak after suffering from liver-related complications.

Lahad Datu police chief ACP Dzulbaharin Ismail, when contacted, confirmed the death and said Jimmy, 53, died at 9.30pm.

“He was a dedicated officer throughout his service in Lahad Datu,” he said.

Dzulbaharin said the Iban officer had sought treatment at Borneo Medical Centre in Kuching on Aug 14 after experiencing liver-related health problems.

“He was subsequently admitted for further examination and treatment before being discharged on Aug 15 and given medical leave until Aug 23,” he said.

Dzulbaharin said Jimmy had also undergone a medical examination at Gleneagles Hospital, Kota Kinabalu, where a growth was detected in the liver and bile duct area.

“On Aug 20, he sought treatment at Sarawak General Hospital before being admitted to the Male Surgical Ward for further monitoring and treatment,” he said.

Jimmy had previously served as Mukah police chief in Sarawak. — Bernama
