Marvel Officially Delivers The Monster Spider-Man That Brand New Day Only Hinted At

The MCU may have discarded the idea of Spider-Man transforming into Man-Spider in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, but Peter Parker's giant spider form arrives only three months after the movie's release. Peter Parker’s Man-Spider transformation is the ultimate manifestation of his arachnid genes overtaking his human body, replacing the man with the monster just like the Hulk takes over Bruce Banner. As Man-Spider, Peter Parker develops a bulbous hair-covered thorax, multiple black eyes, and four additional chelicerae-sprouting appendages.

Tom Holland's Peter Parker faces a very similar fate in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, where his avoidance of his civilian identity and his reliance on the Spider-Man persona leads his mind and body to enhance his arachnid features and abilities. However, Marvel Studios avoids a full monstrous metamorphosis despite having the perfect foundations in place. Instead, Spider-Man: Brand New Day leans on the more subdued body-horror elements of Spider-Island to reflect Peter's internal battle against his own biology. Instead of a giant spider, Holland's Spider-Man develops organic webbing, and his eyes turn black when he lets his instincts take control.

Once Peter Parker embraces both sides of his identity, his arachnid genes settle down. However, Spider-Man's Man-Spider transformation is too iconic not to bring back one way or another.

Spider-Man Transforms Into A Monstrous Man-Spider Three Months After Brand New Day

The Infernal Hulk vs Spider-Man; Written By Phillip Kennedy Johnson; Art By Javier Pina, Yen Nitro, And Rachelle Rosenberg

Spider-Man transforms into Man-Spider in The Infernal Hulk

After defeating Iron Man and the Fantastic Four, and using his mystical power to transform them into monsters, the Infernal Hulk faces off against Spider-Man during his attempt to capture Danielle Cage. Spider-Man puts up a surprisingly solid fight against one of the Hulk's most powerful forms, but he still finds himself wounded by Eldest's gamma monster. Although Spider-Man successfully protects Dani Cage, he succumbs to his wounds right in front of the Avengers and transforms into a giant spider.

The Infernal Hulk's creations draw inspiration from each of their victims. Iron Man drops his high-tech red-and-gold suit of armor, and Tony Stark is covered in medieval-looking gray armor and a simple gray mask on top of his misshapen purple body. Similarly, the Thing turns into a giant pile of rock, the Human Torch becomes an eternal tower of fire, the Invisible Woman transforms into a transparent kaiju-like snake, and Mister Fantastic is melted into a puddle surrounding the Baxter Building.

Spider-Man's New Man-Spider Transformation Is Scarier Than The Original

Peter Parker Suffers A Worse Fate After Fighting The Infernal Hulk

The Avengers transform into monsters in The Infernal Hulk

Spider-Man's first and most famous Man-Spider transformation adds four additional arms to Peter Parker's human frame, his whole body covered in dark fur. His face sprouts fangs from his jaw, and his face grows two new sets of red eyes. Notably, Peter Parker's original Man-Spider form usually keeps his costume, which gets tattered due to his extra limbs and his increased size. In The Infernal Hulk vs Spider-Man, Peter Parker's transforms into a regular spider, only the size of a building and with his lifeless human body hanging from its belly.

The fact that Marvel's new Man-Spider grows out of Peter Parker's wounded abdomen makes this abomination the grossest and most terrifying in the whole Infernal Hulk chapter of the Marvel Universe. Iron Man and the Fantastic Four may be suffering, but they aren't nearly as instantly unsettling as Spider-Man. What's worse for the Avengers, Captain America is confirmed to be crucified, Vision will be transformed into a hulking one-eyed robot, and Black Widow will seemingly become a skeletal harpy. Remarkably, Magneto is the Infernal Hulk's next opponent, but his fate remains unknown.
