Lawmakers back police probe into alleged tapping of president

Translate

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Parliament’s law enforcement committee fully respects the ongoing police investigation into three high-ranking officers accused of illegally wiretapping President Prabowo Subianto, committee leadership said Tuesday.

The suspects—identified by their initials LSP, ASN, and EH—were named by the National Police's Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) following an inquiry into illegal wiretapping, unauthorized data access, and electronic record deletion allegedly conducted between 2025 and 2026.

"This step is part of the legal mechanism, which we must hand over completely to the authorized law enforcement," House Commission III Chairman Habiburokhman told reporters in Jakarta. He added that lawmakers expect the process to remain professional, objective, and transparent.

Bareskrim Chief Commissioner General Asep Safrudin confirmed during a press briefing in Jakarta that the three officers were placed in custody at National Police headquarters after investigators questioned witnesses and confiscated physical evidence.

The suspects face multiple criminal charges carrying a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison if convicted.
