Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma showed their fitness and fielding skills in India's first ODI against New Zealand in Auckland on Wednesday, producing two important dismissals.Kohli took a low catch at second slip to dismiss Nathan Smith in the 29th over off Anshul Kamboj, reducing New Zealand to 115/7.
Smith went hard at a full delivery outside off stump, but managed only a thick edge.
Kohli dived to his right and held on to the ball just inches above the ground. He followed it up with a 'Bow and Arrow' celebration.
Earlier, Rohit helped India dismiss Daryl Mitchell in the 22nd over to claim New Zealand's fifth wicket. Mitchell nudged an Axar Patel delivery towards the leg side, prompting Rohit to rush in from mid-wicket.
A moment of hesitation and confusion between the batters allowed Rohit to collect the ball and send in a quick underarm throw. KL Rahul completed the run-out with a swift collection behind the stumps.
India captain Shubman Gill elected to field after winning the toss. The visitors went in with four specialist fast bowlers — Anshul Kamboj, Auqib Nabi, Gurnoor Brar and Arshdeep Singh — who have a combined experience of 29 international matches.
Mohammed Siraj was left out of the playing XI.
Spin-bowling all-rounder Naman Dhir was preferred over seam-bowling all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy.FOLLOW LIVELineups:New Zealand: Tim Seifert, Will Young, Henry Nicholls, Daryl Mitchell, Tom Latham, Glenn Phillips, Mitchell Santner (captain), Nathan Smith, Kyle Jamieson, Jacob Duffy, Blair Tickner.India: Shubman Gill (captain), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Axar Patel, K.L.
