Star Trek's 60th anniversary has transformed 2026 into a yearlong celebration of one of science fiction's most enduring franchises, honoring everything from the original voyages of Kirk and Spock to the many crews that followed. Few chapters loom larger than Star Trek: The Next Generation, which ran for seven seasons and 178 episodes and helped introduce Trek to an entirely new generation of viewers.

Under Captain Jean-Luc Picard, the Enterprise-D produced some of the franchise's most unforgettable moments, from Data fighting for his personhood in "The Measure of a Man" to Picard's assimilation into Locutus in "The Best of Both Worlds" and his heartbreaking alternate lifetime in "The Inner Light."

Decades later, The Next Generation remains a defining part of Star Trek's identity. Fittingly, the beloved series is making another official return this October, bringing Picard and the Enterprise crew back together in an unexpected new release.

The Next Generation Officially Returns October 20

The main cast of Star Trek The Next Generation

Star Trek: The Next Generation is officially returning on October 20, 2026, with Looney Labs bringing Star Trek: TNG Fluxx back into circulation as part of the franchise's 60th anniversary celebration. The card game had previously gone out of print, but Looney Labs is producing a limited reprint alongside its other original Star Trek Fluxx releases and the new Lower Decks Fluxx.

The returning edition is listed at $25 MSRP, supports one to six players ages eight and up, and typically takes between 10 and 30 minutes to play. Pre-orders are available through participating local game stores.

Star Trek Fluxx Game

For longtime TNG fans, Fluxx incorporates the series thoroghly into its constantly changing ruleset. Players begin with the simple instruction to draw one card and play one, but new cards can continually alter the rules, objectives, and even how many cards players can hold. TNG's cast becomes part of that chaos, with Picard, Riker, Data, and other familiar characters appearing as Keepers, while threats such as Q and the Borg serve as Creepers. References including "Darmok" and the Rule of Acquisition further dig into Trek lore.

It makes the October 20 a compact celebration of TNG's characters, villains, and memorable stories, giving fans another excuse to beam aboard the Enterprise-D.

2026 Is A Packed Year For Star Trek: The Next Generation Fans

TNG Fluxx is hardly the only major release still coming for The Next Generation fans during Star Trek's 60th anniversary year. Perhaps the biggest is Magic: The Gathering x Star Trek, the franchise's first full Universes Beyond crossover with Magic, which releases on November 13, 2026.

The set draws from all 60 years of Trek, but TNG receives considerable attention, including cards for the USS Enterprise-D, Picard, Geordi La Forge, and Data. Picard, Geordi, and Data are also among the set's seven extremely limited Headliner cards, each featuring a genuine actor signature and limited to approximately 250 copies, and Patrick Stewart is among the confirmed signers.

Collectors have even more arriving before the end of the year, with Master Replicas' new Starship Library adding both the Enterprise-D and its movie-era successor, the Enterprise-E, with both currently scheduled to ship in October 2026. The Enterprise-D volume specifically incorporates behind-the-scenes material and interviews about the making of The Next Generation.

Master Replicas is also preparing an Enterprise-D light-up Master Systems Display for December that recreates the familiar cutaway display seen throughout TNG and uses backlighting to approximate the displays used on the series. Between Fluxx, Magic, and several Enterprise-D collectibles, the remainder of Star Trek's anniversary year is shaping up to be particularly busy for fans of Picard and his crew.
