NBI tapped to probe flood control projects in Candaba, Pampanga

MANILA, Philippines — Some citizens from Candaba, Pampanga, are requesting the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to look into alleged irregularities in flood control projects and the use of government funds involving entities supposedly linked to Candaba Mayor Rene Maglanque.

Atty. Faye Singson and Atty. Joey dela Cruz, counsel for the 14 residents who serve as the complainants, along with former Candaba Mayor Jerry Pelayo, arrived at the NBI’s Organized and Transnational Crimes Division office on Friday to file the complaint.

The complainants specifically seek to probe alleged anomalies involving Sto. Cristo Construction & Trading and Globalcrete Builders, Inc., which supposedly secured P5.4 billion in contracts between 2022 and 2025.

Of these contracts, the P1.4 billion obtained by Sto. Cristo Construction & Trading was supposedly allocated solely for flood control projects in Candaba.

The complainants likewise questioned Sto. Cristo Construction & Trading’s alleged transfer of P753.3 million to Globalcrete Builders, Inc., which they believe is owned and registered under the name Maglanque.

Additionally, the complaint sought an investigation into MBB Global Properties Corporation, established in 2023.

The company is allegedly owned by Macy Monique Alarcon Maglangue, daughter of the incumbent Candaba mayor, and unnamed daughters of former Public Works Secretary Manny Bonoan and former Public Works Undersecretary Roberto Bernardo. 

Mayor Maglanque has yet to issue a public statement regarding the complaint as of this writing. /jpv
