Hercules delivers firefighting supplies to South Kalimantan

Banjarbaru, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - An Indonesian Air Force Hercules A-1340 aircraft delivered medical supplies and firefighting equipment to South Kalimantan on Thursday to support efforts to tackle forest and land fires.

“The supplies include seven oxygen cylinders from Unit Pazam 734 of HND Air Base, Satharpazam 73, Depohar 70, and Koharmatau, plus 500 packages of fire hoses from the Defense Ministry,” Sjamsudin Noor Air Base Commander Col. Hilman L.P. Ambarita said in Banjarbaru.

Air base personnel immediately unloaded the supplies for preparation and distribution according to operational needs, supporting personnel involved in fighting the fires.

Hilman said the seven oxygen cylinders would provide medical support for personnel undergoing health checks and oxygen recovery.

The oxygen supplies are intended to help ensure personnel regain optimal physical condition before and after carrying out firefighting duties.

Meanwhile, the hundreds of packages of fire hoses will support operations, particularly in areas requiring continuous firefighting and wetting efforts.

Hilman said Sjamsudin Noor Air Base was ready to facilitate the receipt and distribution of supplies intended to support firefighting operations in South Kalimantan.

All incoming supplies will be promptly processed and distributed according to needs on the ground.

“Equipment support is crucial to sustaining field operations, as forest and land fires require adequate personnel and equipment readiness,” he added.

Forest and land fires in South Kalimantan remain not fully under control.

In Banjarbaru, several areas within Ring 1 of Syamsudin Noor International Airport, including Guntung Damar and Tegal Arum, still have active fires.

Joint task force ground teams work daily to extinguish the fires, supported by aerial firefighting operations using National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) helicopters for water bombing.
