Motherland's Paul Ready responds to fan appetite for return of Diane Morgan's BBC hit Ann Droid

Ann Droid has been a monumental hit for the BBC, so now everyone is wanting to know about a potential season 2. Radio 4 went right to one of the show's main stars, Paul Ready, to ask him what he knows ― and he's offered a promising update.
Speaking to Kirsty Wark, the actor ― who plays the hapless and self-centred Michael in the show and previously starred alongside Diane Morgan in Motherland ― couldn't give anything specific, but he seems confident in a comeback.
"I think it's had a really positive reception," he said, "and I think, I mean, I don't know because I've got no control over that, but I think it's had a really positive reception and I think there's a real interest to, for it to go again."

When asked if Michael might possibly get his own robot in a second season, the actor simply said: "Maybe, maybe."
Speaking about his co-star and on-screen mum Sue Johnston, he said her casting turned the show from its original premise into something more.
"She's incredible", Ready said. "I think [Diane Morgan], when she was talking about it was saying how, you know, her and Sarah Kendall wrote it, they had written it just as a light comedy.
"But then when's it's in the hands of someone like Sue, who brings so much depth to it, I think she really kind of brought a poignancy to it that was there for the taking, but I don't think they realised how poignant it could be as a story."

Following the announcement that Mrs Brown's Boys won't be getting a Christmas or New Year special this year due to star and creator Brendan O'Carroll suffering a fractured jaw, fans feel like the BBC should get the Ann Droid team to whip up a festive episode or two sharpish (and possibly even a crossover with Amandaland).
However, the 2025 Christmas episode of Diane Morgan's Mandy that was pulled from schedules last-minute should finally be aired this year, so that's something fans can look forward to.
Ann Droid is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
