With this year celebrating 40 years of The Legend of Zelda, it makes sense that we have been the subject of plenty of announcements from Nintendo. However, it was not until later in the year that we got the news we had been waiting for courtesy of the recent Zelda Direct. Not only did it shine some light on the upcoming live-action movie which is set to hit cinemas on 30 April 2027, but we also got a much more in-depth look at The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake.

We are just weeks away from the launch of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake as it launches on the Nintendo Switch 2 on 5 November 2026, and thanks to the Zelda Direct, we received more information about what makes this remake just as good as the original, that many, to this day, still consider to be one of the greatest games ever made.

Before then, a brief teaser trailer had only spoiled the brand-new art style that we could expect as we saw a much more modern-looking Link asleep on a bed. However, a social media post back in September revealed a pretty major feature that would be added to the remake.

On the official Twitter/X Japanese Zelda account, it has been revealed that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake will have a brand-new feature titled Trails of Time. As the post reads, "This is a new feature that allows you to confirm your next objective or look back on your adventures so far. Additionally, as you progress through the adventure, a large tapestry painting gradually fills up."

Having a journal as part of our journey in video games has become standard practice in recent years. After all, both Ellie and Arthur have one in The Last of Us and Red Dead Redemption 2, respectively. Now it seems as though Link is about to receive a similar item, which will allow him to carry an interactive adventure log.

Following the social media post, those looking forward to The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake took to the comments to share their thoughts, with one post reading, "Trails of Time is like an adventure logbook, I suppose. The idea of a large tapestry painting is intriguing too. Like a group photo of the sages including Saria, akin to the Poem of the Heroes including the Hero and the Princess."

Another added, "I wonder if, midway through, it could get remade with original elements where the tapestry itself catches fire, leading to some fresh developments?"

Link holds his hand up for Navi in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake.

A third said, "The time-traveling makeup, the graphics are unbelievably gorgeous, and the level of detail in the crafting is incredible too! I just hope those dark elements like the blood-soaked Dead Hand or the blood at the bottom of the well don't get censored. It's the contrast between light and dark that makes this game so uniquely special, after all."

With the launch of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake just around the corner, we remain hopeful that this highly anticipated remake will live up to expectations and, if not, we at least have Grand Theft Auto VI to look forward to just two weeks later.
