Traffic crawls along 20km stretch entering Kelantan as school break and National Day surge builds

GUA MUSANG, Aug 29 — Traffic entering Kelantan has been reported to be moving slowly along a stretch of about 20 kilometres at the border entry point between Merapoh, Pahang, and Kampung Mentara, Gua Musang, due to an increase in vehicles in conjunction with the school holidays and National Day celebration this Monday. 

Gua Musang district police chief Supt Sik Choon Foo said traffic police personnel and the Mobile Patrol Vehicle (MPV) unit have been deployed to the location to conduct regular patrols. 

“Police are closely monitoring traffic flow along all major routes to ensure the safety and smooth movement of road users. 

“Congestion was detected at the diversion area of the Central Spine Road construction project, causing traffic to slow down from Merapoh to the end of the highway at Kampung Mentara,” he told Bernama today. 

However, he said traffic flow returned to normal after passing the diversion area. 

“So far, the number of vehicles on the road is indeed high, but traffic in Gua Musang town remains smooth without any unusual congestion,” he said. 

Meanwhile, a Bernama check around 5pm today in Gua Musang town heading towards Kuala Krai found traffic to be smooth despite an increase in the number of vehicles since this morning. 

In an earlier statement, PLUS Malaysia Berhad (PLUS) said traffic on its highways is expected to reach 2.2 million vehicles on peak days between Aug 28 and 31 and Sept 4 and 7 in conjunction with the National Day celebration and school holidays. 

PLUS also advised road users to plan their journeys by referring to the MyPLUS-TTA digital travel schedule via the PLUS App to help distribute traffic flow and reduce vehicle concentration during peak periods. — Bernama
