Zinedine Zidane’s reign as France manager got off to a winning start with a 1-0 success against Turkiye in the UEFA Nations League 2026-27, but the evening was soured by an injury to captain Kylian Mbappe soon after he scored the winner.
The Real Madrid forward received a threaded pass from Michael Olise to fire home what proved the decisive goal in the 54th minute.
Mbappé then sat on the ground clasping his left leg around the knee area and within minutes Zidane had to take him off. Desire Doue was brought on as his replacement.

“No, it’s not good. It’s not good, unfortunately,” Zidane told French television. “He will have to go back. We will not take risks, he has extended his knee when he took the shot. It’s not very encouraging.”
France plays Belgium away on Monday before hosting Italy on October 2 and Belgium three days later, with both those games at Stade de France.
