Red Rising Is Officially Returning In 2027

Just like The Hunger Games dominated literary circles back when it was released in 2008, Red Rising has done a lot of the same for sci-fi, and after its 2014 release, fans have been addicted to its futuristic Mars setting and drawn to the lowly Darrow; who tries to change the status quo.

Since then, Pierce Brown expanded the Red Rising series into multiple other books, including Golden Son, Morning Star, Iron Gold, Dark Age, and Light Bringer, which launched in 2023. So what's next? Over on Steam, you can get a taste of what's to come in 2027 for Red Rising fans.

In development by Emerald City Games, a digital version of the Red Rising tabletop game is coming, based on the popular series.

Here's a full breakdown of what you're getting: "Red Rising is the official digital adaptation of the critically acclaimed board game, based on Pierce Brown’s bestselling sci-fi saga for 1 to 6 players. Players will step into the color caste system, forming their own House of unique followers, and fighting for dominance. The digital version faithfully recreates the original tabletop rules while adding stunning new visuals and convenience."

As an adaptation, you'll take control of people from rival houses, using cards to trigger various effects and win each round. Golds, Reds, and Obsidians are included, with the idea of faithfully recreating the board game. "All 112 unique character cards" are recreated, and since this is a digital adaptation, it'll have a few extras:

"The physical game brought to life with stunning upgrades only possible in digital form. Watch every card come alive with stunning gold foils and refractions, dynamic effects, and custom voice-over performances. Enjoy exclusive digital tools that make the game faster and more immersive: instant scoring, rules on command, and a rich in-game codex that dives deeper into the Colors, Houses, and lore. This is Red Rising as you’ve never experienced it before."

Hand management is key to mastering this adaptation of Red Rising, and you can practice against AI in both solo and multiplayer modes, with adjustable difficulty settings. Cross-play (real-time and asynchronous) is included for one to six players, along with the aforementioned digital enhancements to the card art and some lore teases that will play out over the course of the game.

If you're a Red Rising fan, you'll want to keep an eye out for this project. It's due in 2027, but there is no word on a release date beyond next year. The team is "working hard" on making a playable demo, so you'll have something to play for free soon enough. The aim was to deliver it in September, but that could slip to later in the year.
