‘Physical intimacy was expected only after marriage’: Director Kiran Rao on how relationships have changed for modern generation

Talented filmmaker Kiran Rao has spoken about the changing way younger people approach love, relationships and marriage. She discussed the subject while promoting her upcoming film 'Lust Stories 3'.Kiran Rao said relationships today are less restricted than they were for earlier generations. She also spoke about how openly young people express themselves. As quoted by Aaj Tak, she said, "Earlier, people were expected to be in a certain kind of relationship, but that is not the case today. I feel there is freedom in relationships now. If you compare today's generation with my generation, I think today's young people have more freedom to be outspoken and live without hesitation.

I mean, the world has changed now and the ways of expressing yourself are also quite different, so that is the aspect we wanted to explore."

'Lust Stories 3' explores modern relationships

During the promotions of 'Lust Stories 3', Kiran Rao was asked about a story involving young people who appear carefree about love and relationships. The filmmaker was asked how she views such relationships both as a director and as an individual. She explained that the story focuses on two young people who are attracted to each other.

"Two young people who are not bound by any restrictions and are attracted to each other.

So, what will their next steps be?" Kiran Rao said the unexpected consequences of their choices add another layer to the story. She also drew a comparison between these relationships and the romantic expectations that existed during her generation.

Kiran Rao recalls expectations from her generation

According to Kiran Rao, earlier generations were expected to follow certain boundaries before entering serious relationships.

She said physical and emotional involvement was traditionally associated with marriage. "When they make certain decisions, and then suddenly things happen after that, I think there is a different kind of fun in it, because in my time, the expectation was that you would have a relationship with a person only within a certain boundary.

Even the expectation of becoming physically or emotionally involved with someone was only after you had an arranged marriage with that person.

But today, that is absolutely not the case." Her comments highlight the difference between traditional expectations and the choices available to younger people today.

Kiran Rao says marriage is not necessary for relationships

Kiran Rao further discussed how marriage is no longer viewed as a necessary condition for developing a serious relationship. "Today, people can have a very deep, genuine relationship with each other even without getting married. They become physically and emotionally involved with each other.

The world today is different from what it was before. We made our story keeping this new world in mind. We wanted to tell a story that could properly present the newness and freedom of today's younger generation.

" The filmmaker said this changing social environment became an important part of the story explored in 'Lust Stories 3'.
