2027 Unity Pact At Risk: Senator Methu Alleges Sabotage Within Opposition Ranks

Nyandarua Senator and Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) Secretary General John Methu has claimed that key figures within the United Opposition may abandon the coalition’s agreement to field a single presidential candidate in the 2027 General Election.

Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV on Sunday, October 11, 2026, Methu singled out Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro and Jubilee Party leader Fred Matiang’i as potential dissenters who could go independent or chart competing political paths.

Allegations of State Infiltration

Methu alleged that President William Ruto is actively deploying political statecraft to divide opposition ranks, pointing to Nyoro as a key operative within those efforts. He claimed that similar overtures were previously extended to him.

“When I heard him say he has a party, I couldn’t believe my ears because it is he who told me that another party is a creation of William Ruto. This same offer of forming a party others were given. If I was to name moles, then I think the name Ndindi Nyoro will feature prominently,” Methu stated.

Methu also voiced reservations about former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, citing his close political alignment and joint public appearances with Nyoro as grounds for suspicion.

“I cannot speak about Matiang’i because I thought I knew him very well. These days, I don’t think I know him. If I say Ndindi Nyoro is a mole, what can I say about Matiang’i, and they are friends?” Methu remarked.

Friction Within the Coalition

Methu’s revelations echo recent assertions by DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua, who warned that several opposition principals are threatening to bolt from the alliance if they fail to secure the presidential nomination.

Gachagua’s comments sparked speculation that Wiper Patriotic Movement leader Kalonzo Musyoka might be among those planning an exit. However, the Wiper party has firmly rejected the claims, reiterating its commitment to a unified opposition front aimed at defeating President Ruto in 2027.
