Eleven Edge Early Learning centres to close after failing to find buyers

Translate

Eleven childcare centres of the collapsed Edge Early Learning group are shutting down with parents only finding out with 48 hours' notice.

Seven of the centres are in Queensland, three in South Australia and one in the ACT.

The closures are happening after Edge Early Learning tumbled into voluntary administration in August this year, amid tough times for operators in the childcare sector.

Administrators KordaMentha successfully found buyers for 53 centres in Queensland and South Australia, including proposals for not-for-profit giant GoodStart Early Learning to acquire 31 facilities.

But despite attempts, acquirers could not be found for 11 centres that were deemed not viable to keep running.

Some parents only found out on Tuesday morning that centres would be closing as of late Wednesday.

A spokesman for KordaMentha said parents at affected centres were being advised in writing of potential nearby facilities where there was some availability for new enrolments.

KordaMentha administrator David Johnstone acknowledged the "impact that the closure of the 11 centres will have on staff as well as families and carers who now need to make alternate childcare arrangements".

Centres subject to closure include:

  • Cannon Hill, QLD
  • Kelvin Grove, QLD
  • Milton, QLD
  • Morayfield East, QLD
  • South Brisbane, QLD
  • Strathpine - Railway Avenue, QLD
  • West End - Jane St, QLD
  • Ngunnawal, ACT
  • Oaklands Park, SA
  • Plympton, SA
  • Royal Park, SA
