Haaland Takes Legal Action Against Norwegian Air Over Alleged World Cup Advert

Translate

Manchester City star Erling Haaland has taken legal action against Norwegian Air Shuttle, filing a formal lawsuit over an alleged social media advertisement published during the FIFA World Cup.

The dispute centers on a promotional post where the airline digitally edited an aircraft to feature blonde hair tied into a trademark ponytail, accompanied by the caption: “We’ve never looked more Norwegian.”

Haaland’s legal representatives argue that the campaign constituted an unauthorized, commercial exploitation of the striker’s distinct identity and personal brand characteristics to market flight tickets.

Haaland’s lawyer, Thomas Hagen, confirmed that the lawsuit was filed on behalf of the player and York Promotions Limited, targeting the unlawful use of his recognizable features.

Norwegian Air expressed surprise at the move, stating the post was merely intended as a lighthearted, spontaneous show of support for the national team during the tournament.

Although the airline subsequently removed the post, they voiced regret that their backing of national sports heroes was met with a lawsuit.

An initial judicial meeting between the legal teams is scheduled at the Oslo District Court, with the case set to test the boundaries of player image rights and digital marketing trends
