When she returns home, Nicola finds Carl tearfully looking at photos of his dad for the memorial. As the pair reminiscence together, Nicola also breaks down in tears.

Carl looks through some of Jimmy's belongings from the haulage yard and finds a mysterious key. But before they can figure out what it's for, Carl shares his sadness about Jimmy not being around for his birthday tomorrow.

"It's gonna be okay, darling," Nicola assures her son, wrapping him in a hug.

Later, Nicola goes for a drink in the Woolpack with Laurel Thomas and Sadie, while Carl and Angelica continue to sort through family pictures. When she explains that she wants to keep him off Jimmy's laptop, Sadie's ears prick up.

"Carl found his dad's messages and voice notes on it the other day," Nicola tells a shocked Sadie. "You can download the [phone] app on other devices, access your messages."

Knowing that Jimmy's voicemails would reveal her lies about their 'affair', Sadie looks visibly alarmed. But Nicola says she stopped Carl from listening to them and didn't want to listen to them herself either.

Relieved Sadie offers to delete the messages for Nicola, to prevent any more "distress". However, disgruntled Laurel tells her she's already "done enough", with Nicola agreeing she can delete them herself.

"Just wish I could delete all the ruined memories as easily," she fumes.

Will Sadie trust Nicola to carry out the task, or will she try to sort it herself?

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 8pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
