New Inter director Baccin speaks after replacing Ausilio: ‘I’m grateful for this opportunity’

Inter have formally presented Dario Baccin, with the long-time Nerazzurri executive taking over following Piero Ausilio’s role following his departure after 28 years at the club.

President Giuseppe Marotta introduced Baccin ahead of Cristian Chivu’s press conference, describing the appointment as a source of “great pride” and highlighting the new director’s human qualities.

“He represents great human values. We welcome him,” the President said, with quotes via TuttoMercatoWeb.

Baccin then addressed the media for the first time in his new position, expressing his gratitude to Inter for entrusting him with the role. The appointment represents continuity for the Nerazzurri, as Baccin had worked closely alongside Ausilio for several years before stepping into the senior position.

The new director also paid tribute to the significance of the day, which marked the 20th anniversary of the death of Inter legend Giacinto Facchetti.

“It was my duty to greet you in my new official role, and doing so today has an even greater meaning because it is the 20th anniversary of Giacinto Facchetti’s death.”

Baccin thanked Inter’s ownership for the opportunity and also singled out Ausilio for helping him reach this point.

“I am grateful to the ownership that decided to give me this role. It is a sign of esteem, and I am grateful for this opportunity.”

The new Chief Sport Officer also acknowledged Marotta’s influence during the transition, while revealing his longstanding relationship with Chivu.

“If I am here today with moral serenity, it is also thanks to the discussions I have had with Piero in recent days. Chivu and I have been linked by a relationship of many years in the youth sector.”

Ausilio’s departure closes a remarkable chapter for Inter, having spent around 28 years at the club and overseeing a period that brought nine major trophies, including three Serie A titles.

Baccin now begins a new chapter, but one built firmly on the foundations established by his predecessor.
