Emotional reunions with loved ones for Oleshky evacuees

Translate

People evacuated from the devastated Russian-occupied city of Oleshky were reunited with their loved ones after crossing from Belarus into Ukraine on Saturday.

This comes as a ceasefire brokered by US First Lady Melania Trump took effect across the frontline region of Kherson on Tuesday.

Families were reunited at a site in the region of Chernihiv in northern Ukraine after arriving in buses and ambulances.

They had previously travelled via Crimea and Russia after their evacuation from the Ukrainian town on Friday.

Ceasefire measures will remain in place until the end of Sunday 1 November.

The BBC's Dan Johnson reports from the site in the Chernihiv region, near the northern Ukrainian border with Belarus.
