Jakarta (ANTARA) - Logistical assistance in the form of basic food packages from President Prabowo Subianto arrived in Maumere, Sikka District, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), on Sunday to meet the basic needs of people affected by the earthquake.

Berton SP Panjaitan, Acting Head of the Data, Information, and Disaster Communication Center at the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), said in Jakarta on Sunday that the initial emergency response assistance from President Prabowo was transported by military aircraft.

A total of 1,725 basic food packages were flown by Hercules aircraft and landed in Maumere. The assistance was subsequently distributed to affected communities in two districts, with 1,000 packages allocated to Sikka and 725 to Ende.

He explained that air delivery of logistics was the government's primary strategy for overcoming accessibility constraints and ensuring that assistance reaches evacuation shelters quickly.

In addition to the delivery to Maumere, Hercules aircraft A-1343 and A-1318 transported another 3,200 packages on Saturday, which were delivered to Labuan Bajo.

According to Berton, the packages were allocated to five other affected districts, West Manggarai, Manggarai, East Manggarai, Ngada, and Nagekeo. This brought the total initial shipment to 4,925 packages.

The assistance is part of the President's commitment to provide a total of 50,000 basic food packages for the earthquake response in NTT. The remaining 45,075 packages will be delivered in stages based on operational needs on the ground.

BNPB, together with local governments, the Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI), and other relevant agencies, continues to coordinate the aid distribution chain based on assessments in each district to ensure that assistance reaches the intended recipients and that the initial response phase proceeds effectively.
