The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a suspected railway vandal, Abubakar Sanusi, and recovered a consignment of vandalised railway slippers in the Doya Quarters area of Bauchi metropolis.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed this in a statement made available to The PUNCH on Wednesday.

Habib said the arrest and recovery followed credible intelligence received by the command concerning the vandalisation of railway properties in the state capital.

He said the intelligence was received on August 17, 2026, at about 12:30am, prompting operatives attached to the ‘A’ Division Township to swing into action.

According to him, the operatives traced the stolen railway materials to a residential building in Doya Quarters.

He said, “In response, operatives attached to ‘A’ Division Township swiftly swung into action and traced the stolen items to a residential building in Doya Quarters, as against the expectation that such exhibits would be concealed in a warehouse or government facility.”

Habib added that the entire consignment of vandalised railway slippers was recovered and evacuated to the police station.

He stated, “Consequently, the entire consignment of vandalised railway slippers was recovered and evacuated to the station. The operation was concluded at about 0330hrs on 18th August 2026 with the arrest of a male suspect, Abubakar Sanusi, in connection with the crime.”

The PPRO said the investigation was ongoing to identify and arrest other members of the syndicate allegedly involved in the vandalisation.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting critical national assets and infrastructure.

Aliyu warned that anyone found vandalising or destroying government property would face the full wrath of the law.

The CP stated, “Anyone found engaging in vandalism or destruction of government property will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.”

The command urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.

It added, “We call on members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station and support in the protection of national assets, anywhere and always.”
