Red Bull has extended team principal Laurent Mekies’ contract until the end of the 2031 Formula 1 season, the team announced on Wednesday.
The agreement was confirmed by Red Bull shareholder Mark Mateschitz during a team meeting at its Milton Keynes headquarters, following Max Verstappen’s consecutive victories at the Malaysian and Singapore Grands Prix.
Mekies took charge in July 2025, replacing Christian Horner, who was dismissed after two decades at the helm. The Frenchman has since overseen a period of transition, with the team’s recent improvement in performance contributing to its resurgence.
The contract extension follows the recent renewals of four-time world champion Verstappen and his teammate Isack Hadjar, providing further stability to Red Bull’s long-term plans.

Mekies expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to continue leading the team, crediting the collective efforts of its personnel and expressing confidence in its future.
Red Bull shareholders Chalerm Yoovidhya and Mateschitz praised Mekies for steering the team through a challenging period while maintaining its competitiveness.
They said the extension reflected their confidence in his leadership and their commitment to the team’s long-term development.
Red Bull will next compete at the United States Grand Prix in Austin, where Verstappen will look to extend his winning streak to three races.
