Coronation Street's Summer to make risky Marco promise in prison storyline

Coronation Street's Summer Spellman vows to stand by Marco Rhodes next week, after her dodgy boyfriend is sent to prison. But is the smitten student making the wrong decision?

Marco was arrested after acting as a getaway driver while wearing an electronic ankle tag. Given his previous offences, he was denied bail.

Adam Barlow and Alya Nazir tell Summer that Marco has lost his case and been sent from remand to prison.

"Marco has been bad news from the beginning, but head-over-heels Summer is determined to see the good in him for some reason," explains our cobbles source.

"He's only just arrived in Weatherfield and is already facing time in Highfield Prison, and given his previous offences, it's not looking likely that he'll be released any time soon…"

Not long after receiving the bad news, Summer pays Marco a visit behind bars and assures him that she'll stick by him – as she's certain he'll win his appeal and they'll soon be free to be together.

Later, Summer is supported by her friends Asha Alahan and Amy Barlow, where she announces that she's determined to take Marco's side no matter what.

Can Marco win his appeal with Summer's unwavering support? Or is her belief in him unfounded, leaving vulnerable Summer facing heartbreak?

Marco made his first appearance a few weeks ago when he stole one of Summer's drawings and put it up on display at the local tattoo shop.

Summer was outraged when she saw what he'd been up to, but she couldn't help feeling flattered when he admitted that it was all a ploy to get her attention.

She also enjoyed his cheeky charm when they got to know each other better, but friends and family quickly became concerned that the rogue would break her heart. Time will tell whether Summer's ongoing faith in Marco is misplaced…

Coronation Street airs on weeknights at 8.30pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
