Arokodare targets trophies after fast Ajax start

Nigerian striker Tolu Arokodare says Ajax are aiming to win every competition they enter, after the forward made a fast start to his loan spell at the Dutch club, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Arokodare scored his seventh goal for Ajax in the 1-1 draw with NEC Nijmegen on Saturday. He has four league goals and three in the UEFA Conference League.

The 25-year-old joined from Wolverhampton Wanderers on a season-long loan in July, with Ajax holding an option to sign him permanently. He has played 10 competitive games for the club.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Footy-Africa, Arokodare said he was enjoying life in Amsterdam.

“It has been lovely; it has been amazing. The Dutch people have been amazing so far. My teammates have been great. The club has been outstanding. I love the people. I love the style of football. I love the fans so much,” he said.

He added that the supporters had shown him affection on and off the pitch, including in his messages.

On Ajax’s ambitions, the striker said, “We are going to try to win everything that is there to win, in every competition we are participating in. We are Ajax, so we always want to be the best, be number one.”

The start is a major improvement on his time at Wolves, where he scored three Premier League goals following his move from Belgian club Genk. He left the English club amid controversy over an alleged training-ground incident, which he later addressed publicly.

At Ajax, his physical presence helps him hold off defenders and bring teammates into play, while his aerial strength makes him a threat from crosses, as shown by his goal against NEC.
