Aimee Lou Wood teases "complicated and moving" final season of BBC's Daddy Issues

Daddy Issues star Aimee Lou Wood has teased what's in store for her character, as the BBC sitcom approaches its final season. The actor plays Gemma, a pregnant party girl who finds herself in an unusual flat-share with her recently divorced dad Malcolm (David Morrissey).

The show first debuted in 2024 and was followed by a second season which aired last year. This July, the BBC commissioned a third and final instalment, with a release date yet to be announced.

Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy at the UK premiere for The Idiot(s), Wood teased a "complicated and moving" storyline for new mum Gemma as she tries to sort her life out.

"Oh, it's really good. It's really good. It's going to be the final series. So we're very much, Gemma is very much facing her Daddy Issues really full on," the actor said. "So it's making for a very interesting and complicated and moving journey."

Season three will pick up 18 months after the season two finale, with a number of familiar faces joining the cast, including Anthony Welsh as Gemma's love interest Avery, Shobna Gulati as new neighbour Odette, Neil Morrissey as Malcolm's friend Ellis, and Sian Gibson as Rita's crazy sister Juno.

According to the synopsis, the upcoming episodes will see Gemma and Malcolm settled into "their own comfortable rhythm", with Sadie thriving at nursery and Gemma enjoying a promotion at the salon.

"But after two weeks away she returns to find Malcolm has lost his keys, the flat has sprung a leak and the police are at the door. So much for having everything under control," the synopsis continues.

"It doesn't take long for 'old Gemma' to resurface either. A promising new romance leaves her caught in a tangled web of lies, and there's only one person she can turn to: Malcolm, who might finally have become the grown-up she always knew he could be."

Gemma and Malcolm will face new relationships and "unexpected" surprises in the third season, as even more "outrageous misunderstandings" unfold.

Daddy Issues will return to the BBC, and seasons 1-2 are streaming now on BBC iPlayer.
