Translate

EXCLUSIVE: Apple TV‘s upcoming dramedy Beat the Reaper has added Paul Schulze (Nurse Jackie, The Sopranos) and Tony Macht (Oh Mary!, The Comeback) to its recurring cast. Details regarding their characters are under wraps.

Based on the novel of the same name by Josh Bazell, Beat the Reaper follows Dr. Peter Brown (Will Poulter), an intern at Boston’s worst hospital, with a talent for medicine, a shift from hell, and a past he’d prefer to keep hidden. But when a patient recognizes him from his dangerous past, Brown has eight hours to elude the government, mob hitmen, quack surgeons, and a trail of dead gangsters to somehow beat the reaper.

The previously announced cast also includes J.K. Simmons, Damon Herriman, Stephanie Nur, Artoun Nazareth and Molly Price.

Beat the Reaper is executive produced by showrunner Sam Catlin through his overall deal with Apple TV. Arnon Milchan, Yariv Milchan, Natalie Lehmann, and Laura Delahaye will executive produce, and Rachel Toffler will co-executive produce, for New Regency. Apple Studios is the studio.

Schulze is most notably known as the eccentric pharmacist and illicit love interest, Eddie Walzer, on Showtime’s Nurse Jackie. He can be seen most recently in recurring roles on Apple TV’s Sugar, Netflix’s The Lincoln Lawyer, and Amazon’s The Expanse. On HBO’s The Sopranos, Schulze played Father Phil Intintola, and also appeared for three seasons of Fox’s 24 as CTU director Ryan Chappelle. Film credits include Panic Room and the latest installment of the Rambo franchise. Schulze is repped by Kyle Fritz Management and Innovative Artists.

Macht can currently be seen on Broadway in the Tony-winning hit, Oh, Mary! For TV, Macht’s recurring roles include Dying For Sex (FX) and in Season 3 of The Comeback (HBO). His guest-starring roles include Back Rabbit (Netflix), At Home with Amy Sedaris (TruTV), and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (Amazon). Feature film credits include the upcoming Focker In Law, Terminal (Cannes Short Competition), After Class (Tribeca), Listen, and the upcoming Handle With Care. Macht is repped by Nicolosi & Co., Sweet 180, and Schreck Rose Dapello.
