Cape Town areas to experience 11-hour water shutdown

The City of Cape Town has confirmed that some areas will experience a 10-hour water shutdown on Wednesday,
The Water and Sanitation Directorate said the planned maintenance forms part of ongoing efforts to upgrade critical infrastructure and improve water supply across the city.
CAPE TOWN AREAS SET TO EXPERIENCE WATER SUPPLY DISRUPTION
The City of Cape Town said planned maintenance work, including pipe and valve installations, repairs, and replacements, will result in water supply disruption to these areas:
Part of Grassy Park – The water supply to Dieman Road, Iris Road and possibly surrounding streets in Grassy Park will be shut off temporarily on Wednesday, 7 October 2026, from 08:00 until 19:00. This will allow the maintenance teams to safely connect the newly installed pipelines to the existing water supply infrastructure in the area.
“These streets and possibly surrounding streets will experience no water during this period,” the municipality said.
Parts of Woodstock – The City of Cape Town will start with the pipe replacement project that will affect the water supply intermittently to parts of Woodstock from Monday, 5 October 2026 until Friday, 30 April 2027.
The metro municipality said this will result in the water being shut off in Ravenscraig Road, Woodlands Road, Pine Road, Queens Road, Beyers Road, Warwick Street, Salmon Street, Coventry Road, Duke Road, Park Road, High Street, and possibly surrounding streets in Woodstock temporarily from 08:00 until 17:00 daily.
“This will allow the maintenance team to safely carry out the pipe and valve replacement in the area using trenchless technology, which is less of an inconvenience to residents and motorists. These streets and possibly surrounding streets will experience no water during this period and will be notified in advance when they will be affected,” the municipality said.
Parts of Strand – Similarly, the City of Cape Town will shut off the water supply to parts of Broadlands Road, from the vicinity of the Strandfoam Group (Pty) Ltd to the N2, Lwandle Helderberg Industrial and possibly surrounding streets in Strand temporarily on Wednesday, 7 October 2026, from 09:00 until 18:00. This will allow the maintenance team to safely carry out a new connection to the 300mm-diameter water main in the area. These areas and possibly surrounding streets will experience no water during this period.
ZERO-PRESSURE TESTS
Additionally, the City of Cape Town said it will conduct zero-pressure tests (ZPT) and conditional assessments on the water supply network, resulting in water supply disruptions in the following areas:
- Wednesday, 7 October 2026, 09:00 to 16:00: Martinville – Bizweni.
- Thursday, 8 October 2026, 09:00 to 16:00: Helderzicht, Lourensia Park, Paardevlei, Victoria Park, Silvertas, Garden Village and Carey Park.
- Thursday, 8 October 2026, 09:00 to 16:00: Da Gama Park, Welcome Glen and Scala Road.
Residents have been advised to store water in advance as a precautionary measure in clean, sealed containers for domestic use during this period.
