KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 2 — The government will continue to strengthen public service governance and integrity to combat the leakage of public funds and abuse of power, particularly involving Federal Statutory Bodies, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

He said the matter was among the issues discussed at the Special Cabinet Committee on National Governance (JKKTN) meeting, which he chaired yesterday.

“I stressed that law enforcement must be accompanied by the continuous cultivation of integrity and good governance in the public and private sectors, as well as in society,” he said in a Facebook post yesterday.

He said the meeting also agreed for a legal study to be conducted to draft the policy, governance direction and the Charities Bill to regulate trust entities and public funding.

The move is crucial to ensure entrusted funds are managed transparently and responsibly, he said, adding that the meeting also agreed to the proposed implementation of the Cultivation of Public Service Values.

At the same time, Anwar said the policy for the Statutory Bodies and Controlled Entities (Financial Governance) Bill will be presented to the Cabinet this year to strengthen discipline and accountability in financial management.

“The meeting also agreed to the seven resolutions presented at the Fifth National Level Governance, Integrity and Anti-Corruption Research Conference on Sept 25,” he said.

Anwar said the Madani Government will continue to strengthen public service integrity and close any avenues for leakages and abuse of power.

“Every ringgit of public money is a trust from the people that must be safeguarded, and every power granted must be used to guarantee their wellbeing,” he added. — Bernama
