Washington Sundar was on Thursday withdrawn from India’s T20I squad for the upcoming five-match series against West Indies starting October 6.
Naman Dhir, who made his ODI debut recently, was announced his replacement. He had recently made his ODI debut as well.
The decision, BCCI said, was keeping in view the upcoming away Test series against New Zealand.
“With the Ranji Trophy season commencing on October 11, Washington will get an opportunity to play red-ball cricket for his state team and prepare for the Test series,” BCCI stated.
Tamil Nadu, Sundar’s state team, will begin its Ranji Trophy campaign against Rajasthan.
Sundar is currently with the Indian team in Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games 2026.
India’s updated T20I squad: Shreyas Iyer (C), Abhishek Sharma, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Ishan Kishan (WK), Sanju Samson (WK), Tilak Varma (VC), Shivam Dube, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Ravi Bishnoi, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Arshdeep Singh, Prince Yadav, Mayank Yadav, Naman Dhir.
