The Osun State Government has engaged security agencies and relevant stakeholders to enforce the state’s Integrated Transport, Traffic and Park Management Law, 2026, aimed at curbing illegal revenue collection and motor park thuggery.

The government, at an interactive session held on Thursday in Osogbo, explained the provisions of the law to security agencies and clarified their responsibilities to strengthen inter-agency collaboration.

According to a statement made available to The PUNCH, the Chairman of the House Committee on Public Works and Transport, Abiola Inaolaji, who spoke at the event, said the law was designed to protect residents and state transport infrastructure.

Inaolaji warned against the harassment of motorists, unauthorised revenue collection, and the abuse of power by enforcement officers, noting that success depended on public confidence and strict adherence to the law.

The Osun State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Zungura, described the law, signed on October 15, 2026, as a vital tool for regulating the transport sector and resolving crises at local government garages.

He added that the legislation could reduce disputes previously experienced at local government motor parks, saying, “In the past, we used to have issues in the local government garages, but this law will minimise, if not eradicate, the crises that normally emanate from the garages.”

“The programme is a laudable programme that every security agency in the state will appreciate, not only because it involves road management, but it’s also a cooperation of all security agencies to make sure that the road management has been done properly,” he said.

Zungura also warned that the Inspector-General of Police had ordered the immediate arrest and prosecution of motorists who cover or deface their vehicle number plates nationwide.

The Federal Road Safety Corps Sector Commander in Osogbo, Sunday Tayo, urged the state government to build standard motor parks equipped with surveillance facilities to aid enforcement.

Tayo stressed that proper infrastructure would improve coordination among security agencies and park management officials, citing well-organised parks in Oyo State as a model.

The Commandant of the Osun Amotekun Corps, Adekunle Omoyele, assured the public that the state security outfit would support park management in maintaining law and order.
