India’s chances of qualifying for the 2025-27 World Test Championship (WTC) final were dented after it drew the second Test against Sri Lanka in Colombo on Thursday.
With the result, India remained fifth in the WTC points table with five wins and 68 points, while its points percentage (PCT) dropped from 53.33 to 51.52.
India’s next assignment is a two-Test away series against New Zealand starting in November, followed by a five-Test home series against Australia in early 2027.

Out of these seven Tests, India will need a strong run of results to keep its hopes of reaching the final alive, with the quality of opposition making the task easier said than done.
Australia currently leads the table with 80 percentage points, while New Zealand is third with 72.22 percentage points.
The last time India and New Zealand locked horns in the longest format, the Black Caps won 3-0, handing India its first Test series defeat at home in 12 years.
