MELAKA, Nov 8 — Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate for the Paya Rumput state constituency Datuk Azman Abidin has introduced an initiative to help voters check their polling locations and channels ahead of the 16th Melaka State Election on November 14.

Azman, popularly known as Tok Man, said he and his campaign team would assist voters in checking their polling details while campaigning, with the results printed on small slips and handed to them for reference.

He said the initiative used electoral roll data provided by the Election Commission (EC) to candidates, with the information entered into a system specially developed by PH to facilitate the checking and printing of voter slips.

“Under this initiative, campaign workers only need to enter a voter’s identity card number to retrieve information on their polling location, including the school and assigned polling channel,” he told reporters after attending a courtesy visit and meet-and-greet programme with the Paya Rumput state constituency campaign machinery today.

Also present at the programme, held at the PH Main Operations Room in Krubong here, was PKR Advisory Council chairman Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, who is also Bandar Tun Razak Member of Parliament.

Azman, who is also the Prime Minister’s Political Secretary, said the idea for the initiative came about after he found that many voters he met during the campaign period could not remember their respective polling centres and channels.

“With this slip, which is more practical than the standard A4-sized printout used previously, voters can not only check their polling details but also keep it in their wallets or pockets for reference again on polling day,” he said.

On the campaign’s progress as it enters its final week, Azman said he would make full use of the remaining time to reach as many residents of the Paya Rumput constituency as possible.

“We will try to cover all areas and reach out to everyone in Paya Rumput, Insha-Allah. The campaign has been going well, in an orderly and peaceful manner. I hope it will remain so until polling day,” he said.

The 16th Melaka State Election will see a three-cornered contest in Paya Rumput between Azman, Rafie Ahmad of Perikatan Nasional (PN) and Abdul Rashid Abu Bakar of Parti Bersama Malaysia (Bersama).

The EC has set Nov 14 as polling day for the Melaka state election, with early voting scheduled for Nov 10.
