At least 16 people were hurt in a road crash incident involving several vehicles at Ortigas Avenue Extension at Barangay Dolores in Taytay, Rizal.
In a DZBB report from Jonathan Andal on Saturday, Taytay police said that from the 16 injured in the incident, two were seriously injured.
A 12-wheeler truck carrying sand appeared to have started the incident. The truck came from Antipolo and was headed down to Rizal through a curved, descending road.
According to the truck’s driver, he swerved to avoid an incoming van.
However, the truck’s brake did not respond in time, so the driver switched to the other lane. The truck rammed into other incoming vehicles, including a jeepney, a motorcycle, and more.
One of those seriously injured was another driver, and the other was a female jeepney passenger.
Based on the accounts of the other passengers, the jeep was full during the incident.
The owner of the truck said that they would pay for the hospital fees of all those injured.
The truck driver asked for forgiveness from those hurt but maintained that he was not tired.
Taytay police are still investigating the matter.
According to the Taytay Public Information Office’s Facebook page, the incident caused traffic in the area.
Local authorities were able to clear the road again by 3:30 p.m. —Jean Mangaluz/ VAL, GMA News
