Wallabies resist urge to shift Suaalii from wing for Bledisloe Cup Test

Translate

The Wallabies have kept Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii on the wing for Saturday night's Bledisloe Cup Test at Auckland's Eden Park, with Isaac Henry named in the centres.

Henry has been included at outside centre to partner Len Ikitau in the Wallabies' midfield against the All Blacks.

Ikitau, who has recovered from an ankle injury, moves from outside to inside centre in the wake of Hunter Paisami's suspension.

Wallabies coach Les Kiss resisted the temptation to shift Suaalii from the wing back to the centres.

He has shown faith in 27-year-old Henry, who he coached at the Queensland Reds.

Kiss also handed Henry his Test debut two months ago, against Japan in Osaka.

Henry, who will be playing his fifth Test, is the only change to the Wallabies' starting XV following their stunning 42-38 win over world champions South Africa in Perth late last month.

The Wallabies made four changes on the reserves bench, opting for a 5-3 (forwards-back split).

Hooker Josh Nasser, prop Massimo De Lutiis, back-rower Nick Champion de Crespigny and fly half Declan Meredith earned call-ups.

"Keeping consistency in the starting side gives us a solid foundation, while adding some freshness on the bench will provide energy late in the game," Kiss said in a statement.

The Wallabies have enjoyed a six-match unbeaten streak after beginning the Test season with defeats to Ireland and France in the Nations Championship.

Since Kiss took over from Joe Schmidt as coach, the Wallabies have recorded four wins and a draw.

But the All Blacks pose an almighty challenge, especially at Eden Park.

The Wallabies have lost 24 consecutive Tests against the All Blacks at the venue, with their most recent victory coming in 1986.

They did, however, beat Wales at Eden Park in the third-place play-off at the 2011 Rugby World Cup.

"There aren't many tougher challenges than playing New Zealand at Eden Park, but it's one we're excited by and know that we will need to be at our best in all aspects of our game," Kiss said.

Wallabies squad (1-15): Angus Bell, Brandon Paenga-Amosa, Allan Alaalatoa, Jeremy Williams, Lukhan Salakaia-Loto, Rob Valetini, Fraser McReight, Harry Wilson (C), Ryan Lonergan, Ben Donaldson, Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii, Len Ikitau, Isaac Henry, Max Jorgensen, Tom Wright

Replacements: Josh Nasser, Aidan Ross, Massimo De Lutiis, Lachlan Shaw, Nick Champion de Crespigny, Tate McDermott, Declan Meredith, Harry Potter
