Taylor Swift had one weekend and two very different crowds. On Saturday night she sang for Steven Spielberg and a room full of Oscar voters at the Academy Museum Gala. On Sunday she sat in a Kansas City suite, red lipstick and all, while husband Travis Kelce and the Chiefs beat the Chargers 22-6. Insider Rob Shuter says the gala set may have helped her first Oscar bid. Nominations arrive January 21, 2027. Kelce had a busy day too, ankle scare included.
Taylor Swift Oscar campaign gets a gala boost
Swift performed "I Knew It, I Knew You" from Toy Story 5, and Charlize Theron and Colman Domingo were watching. Per Billboard, her four-song set included the live debut of "The Fate of Ophelia." The gala raised more than $14 million.
Shuter's sources claim she bought her own ticket and took no fee. Smart move. Voters notice effort. "Oscar campaigns are about goodwill," one source said. Shuter himself went bigger: “Taylor Swift just won herself an Oscar,” Shuter wrote. Treat that as gossip, not fact. Nobody knows how a single ballot will land.
The song does have real momentum. It hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and topped country radio, her first time there in 13 years. Every earlier Toy Story film produced a Best Original Song nominee. Conan O'Brien, who hosts the 2027 ceremony, introduced her this way: "She's John, Paul, George and Ringo all in one."
Swift has never earned a nomination. "Carolina" reached a shortlist but missed the final ballot. A win would leave her one Tony from an EGOT, with 14 Grammys and a 2015 Emmy already on the shelf.
Travis Kelce at Arrowhead: a quiet stat line and a scare
Sunday belonged to Kelce, at least in Kansas City. He caught four passes for 53 yards on five targets, with a long of 24. Late in the game he left briefly with a right ankle injury. He came back after treatment, which will calm plenty of nervous fans.
Swift watched from the suite with Este Haim and Caitlin Clark. She danced, clapped and hugged Haim after one Kelce catch. Cameras loved it.
The numbers say Kelce still matters at 37. He leads the Chiefs in receiving yards this season with 20 catches for 299 yards and two touchdowns. He is an 11-time Pro Bowler with 1,100 career receptions, 13,301 yards and 84 touchdowns. Few tight ends have ever matched that résumé.
Kansas City is now 5-0, and the Seattle Seahawks visit on Sunday, October 25. Whatever happens in January, Chiefs fans care far more about that ankle than any Oscar ballot.
