What happened to Mansoor Delane? Chiefs confirm CB's injury and reveal whether he will return against Broncos

The Kansas City Chiefs suffered an early blow during Monday Night Football against the Denver Broncos as cornerback Mansoor Delane was forced to leave the game in the first quarter.

Chiefs confirm Delane's injury status

Kansas City later revealed that Delane was dealing with a shoulder injury and listed him as questionable to return. "CB Mansoor Delane is questionable to return with a shoulder injury," the Chiefs tweeted on X.

Kristian Fulton stepped in to fill Delane’s spot in the secondary following his departure.

What happened to Mansoor Delane?

Delane left the game during the Broncos’ second offensive drive, raising concerns about his shoulder after an eventful opening series.

The 22-year-old made an immediate impact by intercepting Broncos quarterback Bo Nix on the first pass thrown his way. However, he stumbled after securing the interception and went down without being touched, before eventually exiting the game.

The situation is especially concerning because Delane has already dealt with a shoulder problem this offseason.

He suffered the injury during OTAs, missed mandatory minicamp and remained sidelined until Week 2 of the preseason. His return appeared to indicate that the issue was behind him, but it now remains unclear whether the latest injury is related to the same problem.

Nate Taylor of ESPN noted that Delane landed on the same shoulder during the interception return. Delane previously battled a right shoulder injury throughout the offseason program and training camp, making the latest development something to monitor closely.
