Prabowo urges ministries to ensure efficient spending toward year-end

Translate

Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto instructed all ministries and government agencies to maintain efficient budget spending through the final two months of 2026, ensuring that state revenue and expenditure projections remain on track.

Finance Minister Suahasil Nazara stated that the government still needs to collect over Rp600 trillion (approximately US$33.15 billion) in state revenue during November and December 2026.

Meanwhile, projected state expenditures over the same period are expected to reach approximately Rp990 trillion (US$54.70 billion).

Speaking to reporters at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Tuesday after briefing the President on the realization of the State Budget (APBN) through October 2026, Suahasil acknowledged that state spending typically accelerates toward the end of the year.

He noted that the government permits this seasonal pattern, provided that all expenditures remain efficient and align with the output targets established when the budget was originally proposed.

"That is fine, but it must remain efficient and adhere to good governance," Suahasil stated.

Together with his team at the Finance Ministry, Suahasil urged all ministries and agencies to enhance efficiency as the fiscal year draws to a close, ensuring that efforts to secure revenue go hand-in-hand with expenditure control.

"We continue to pursue state revenue, while simultaneously ensuring that spending remains efficient," Suahasil added.

Beyond domestic expenditure, fiscal authorities are keeping a close watch on international commodity markets.

Suahasil noted that global oil prices recently surged to US$113 per barrel before easing slightly over the past few days.

This external volatility has underscored the necessity for the administration to maintain a high state of budget readiness as 2026 draws to a close.

The Finance Minister did not provide specific details regarding which revenue streams—including taxes—will be prioritized through the end of the year.
