Brydon Carse needs time away from international cricket, says Harry Brook

England white-ball skipper Harry Brook said that pacer Brydon Carse needs a bit of time away from international cricket after a chaotic few weeks for the 31-year-old.

Last month, Carse was arrested and de-arrested by police on a night out with his Durham teammates in Derby, central England. However, on Friday, the officials confirmed that an investigation into alleged assault had concluded, and no further action would be taken.

He is still under investigation by an independent regulator, but the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has noted that Carse is available for selection.

While he has continued to play for Durham, Carse has not been chosen for any format of international cricket since the incident and last played for England in the fifth Ashes Test in January.

England’s one-day international and T20 captain Brooke told the BBC on Monday that “I’m very good mates with Carsey. I’ve spoken a lot with him. Those conversations are private.”

“I think he just needs time away from the international scene. He’s working on a few things behind the scenes, and hopefully he’ll be ready at some point in the future,” he added.

Meanwhile, last week, England white-ball head coach Brendon McCullum said that Carse needs to “get his house in order” before an international return.

England will take on Sri Lanka in the first of three ODIs, at Chester-le-Street on Tuesday. England beat Sri Lanka 3-0 in a T20 series that ended on Saturday.
