Duke favors consistency in tapping Eget as QB1

Translate

Duke has named San Jose State transfer Walker Eget its starting quarterback ahead of the Blue Devils' season opener against Tulane on Sept. 5, sources told ESPN's Pete Thamel.

After a four-year career at San Jose State, Eget applied for and was granted an NCAA waiver in February to be eligible for the 2026 season. Duke added him via the transfer portal following Darian Mensah's departure for Miami.

Eget passed for 3,051 yards and 17 touchdowns, with a 59% completion rate, and nine interceptions last season with the Spartans. In four seasons, he totaled 5,563 career yards and 30 touchdowns.

At Duke, Eget beat out highly regarded redshirt freshman Dan Mahn for the starter's role. The Blue Devils are coming off a 9-5 season and 6-2 record in the ACC.
